A typical week at St. Barnabas Orthodox includes the following services. Children are a blessing; their information can be found in the Orthros and Divine Liturgy sections below. Please check our calendar link for changes, updates, and special services added throughout the church year.
Saturday
Great Vespers – 6:00 p.m. (lasts approximately 50 minutes) Our liturgical week begins with Great Vespers (Gen. 1:5). This service is a journey through creation, sin, and salvation in Christ; it is a time to reflect on God’s Word and His love for mankind. Great Vespers prepares our hearts for Sunday morning’s Divine Liturgy and the sacramental mysteries.
Sunday
Orthros — 9 a.m.
Psalms, prayers, and readings quiet the mind before the Divine Liturgy begins. And this is when we hold Sunday school for the children.
Divine Liturgy — 10 a.m. (ends about 11:30 a.m.)
Liturgy means the people’s work; this is our main service. The entire community, which includes all children and infants, worship together; prayers are spoken, songs are sung, God’s Word is read, and a sermon is preached. We participate in the living experience of God’s eternal kingdom through prayer, worship, and the sacrament of Holy Communion in Christ.
Wednesday
Daily Vespers — 6:30 p.m. (lasts approximately 45 minutes)
Mid-week daily vespers is an abbreviated version of Great Vespers and rounds out the weekly cycle.
