In the aftermath of yesterday’s murderous attack in Boston, let us recall the prayers we make at Great Compline.
Asking the intercessions of the Mother of God and all the saints we pray in this manner,
“Make our prayer acceptable”
“Shelter us in the shelter of thy wings”
“Drive away from us every enemy and adversary”
“Give peace to our life”
“O Lord, have mercy on us and on thy world and save our souls, for thou art a merciful God and lovest mankind.”
We then pray “for the peace of the world”
“And for those who hate us and those who love us.”
“And for those who have requested our prayers, unworthy thou we be”
“And for those who lie in sickness”
May God bring healing and comfort to the injured and grieved and may he have mercy on those who lost their lives!
